Descriptions

The curriculum in the degree programme for Physiotherapy consists of 12 modules, each with a specific theme. Two 15 ECTC credit modules are elective. The requirements for expertise for each module listed in the curriculum help students to set goals for their studies. The requirements for expertise also help the students to evaluate the competence they already have and their future learning. Every students’ learning process starts with the creation of a personal study plan (HOPS). The personal study plan is supported by the recognition of prior competence (AHOT) and flexible individual implementation of studies. The tutors, student counsellors, other teachers and staff support the student's progress in his/her studies.

Development

Physiotherapist’s qualification is based on general and professional competences, which describe a future expert in physiotherapy. Specifically, the foundation of the curriculum, and thus the related competences relies internationally on ‘The Competence Chart of the European Network of Physiotherapy in Higher Education’ and ‘World Confederation for Physical Therapy’.
Nationally, the curriculum is based on the report of the Finnish Ministry of Education on higher education and health care as well as on the reports of the Finnish Association of Physiotherapists (FAP) on physiotherapists’ profession.
The curriculum of physiotherapy has been mainly designed by teachers of the physiotherapy degree
programme, supported by other teachers in Metropolia, physiotherapy students and partners from the work environment. Also, members of the joint committee of the physiotherapy degree
programme have contributed to the curriculum.
The designed curriculum below includes the strategic outline and values of the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences.
In physiotherapy programme studenst expertise develops by multifaceted cooperation within the university and with the members of work life.

Further information

During physiotherapy studies students can participate in various student exchange programmes. Multicultural collaboration is also possible during studies, in different projects, during Metropolias International week and in co-operation with incoming exchange students.
