Objective

Students are capable of integrating multiple fields of science as a basis for the assessment and know that the holistic framework of functional ability involves assessing individual circumstances, resources and environment. They know how to apply various client-oriented approaches to the assessment of functional ability. Students identify distinct possibilities and challenges of functional ability together with the client. They are aware of the most common assessment methods of different areas of functional ability. Students are competent in finding environmental solutions promoting individual functional ability and
participation and are capable of applying this competence to planning of accessible operational environments in a multiprofessional manner. They understand how assistive equipment promotes individual’s functional possibilities, health and independence. Students are able to assess the need for assistive equipment.

Content

Frameworks for functional ability assessment, theories and their application to physiotherapy
Assessment methods of different areas of functional ability
Assessing functional ability and setting objectives together with the client by means of Goal Attainment Scale (GAS). Planning of environment promoting functional ability and participation as well as laws and
recommendations guiding it
Assessing accessibility of environment and formulating development proposals from the perspectiveof various user groups
Assessment process for the need of assistive equipment and their selection as well as the different phases of acquisition

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Students master professional concepts, and they justify their choices using the comprehensive knowledge base, based on the client’s needs. Students assess systematically the prerequisites and consequences of their own actions.
Students act independently and professionally aiming at goals set to them in their operating environment as well as apply working methods appropriately and safely.
Students work according to professional ethics as well as commit themselves to the group, enhancing its functioning.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Students master professional concepts and make choices together with the client using the comprehensive knowledge base. They also assess and develop their own functioning systematically.
Students act independently and professionally aiming at goals set to them in their operating environment. They also apply working methods flexibly and safely.
Students work according to professional ethics considering the characteristics of various situations, and in their work they commit themselves to the code of professional conduct.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Students master professional concepts and make choices together with the client using the comprehensive knowledge base, in changing environments. They also assess their own functioning and produce knowledge to develop their operating environment.
Students act independently and professionally and develop their working and operating environments together with other actors.
Students work according to professional ethics considering the characteristics of complex and unpredictable situations. Their work develops and renews professional procedures and practices.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Students master professional concepts, and they justify their choices using the comprehensive knowledge base, based on the client’s needs. Students assess systematically the prerequisites and consequences of their own actions.
