Objective

Students become familiar with the characteristics of mental development in old age, and they understand how the individual's development and life history are related to old age development. Students know how cognitive functions develop in old age and what factors cause the changes. Students understand the significance of mental capacity, recognise central mental disorders in old age and can use helping methods of mental health.

Stages of ageing and mental functioning: cognitive functions, personality, mental well-being. Main mental disorders in old age and methods of treatment. Experiencing loneliness. Care of older people's depression. One's own attitudes towards ageing and those who age. Life-long learning.
