Objective

Students describe the key metabolic reactions and their regulatory systems and explain the biochemical foundations of laboratory analyses.

Content

Amino acids, proteins, enzymes; fluid and electrolyte balance and its regulation; acid-base balance and its regulation; carbohydrate and lipid metabolism and their regulation; formation of bile pigments and nitrogenous waste products; vitamin and hormone metabolism.

Prerequisites: Anatomy, Physiology and Pathophysiology; General and Inorganic Chemistry; Cell Biology and Genetics
