Radiation and Nuclear PhysicsLaajuus (3 ECTS)

Objective

After the course, there is a possibility to pass the radiation safety officer exam (requirements presented in regulatory guide 1.8) in addition to normal course credits. Main objectives are to understand the basic principles of nuclear and atomic physics and how to maintain radiation safety when radiation sources are used in different applications. Special attention is also paid to learn and understand the main regulations concerning the use of radiation.

Content

Introduction to nuclear and atomic physics, radioactivity. Interaction of radiation with matter, gamma radiation spectra. Radiation detectors and measurements , Use and applications of radiation, safety aspects and radiation dose calculations. Regulations concerning the use of radiation. Experimental exercises.
