Objective

After completing the course the student will
o understand XHTML
o understand CSS
o be familiar with Web standards
o know the software tools used in web development
o know the workflow in a web development project (in a larger corporation scale)

Content

The purpose for the Web Development Basics course is to offer basic design principles that students can use to make their content as easy to understand as possible.
As a tool for communication, web authoring with HTML has limitations. Designers have taken this relatively primitive authoring and layout tool and have begun to bend and adapt it to a purpose it was never intended to serve: graphic page design.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Requirements for the student:

Able to build a simple XHTML application

Assessment criteria, good (3)

In addition the student is able to design, implement and test his/her own XHTML application to a given problem to be solved. The basic use of CSS.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In addition the student is able to use CSS and other web standards to build semi-professional XHTML pages.
