Objective

Students have basic knowledge of pharmacology and pharmacodynamics of medication and they know how to administer medication safely in the care of various patient groups.

Content

General overview on medication.
Medication of diabetes.
Medication of disorders of the digestive system.
Medication of the cardiovascular system.
Antimicrobial medicines.
Medication of symptoms and diseases of the respiratory system.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student understands the basic phases and effects of medicines in the body. He/she knows the key concepts and their content on a general level. The student identifies drugs and drug groups and can, to some extent, connect them with the treatments of different illnesses. He/she has some understanding of the effect mechanisms of different drug groups. The student recognizes some injurious effects typical of different drug groups. The student knows and can occasionally identify clinically significant drug synergisms.

The student has a good understanding of the basic phases and effects of medicines in the body. He/she knows the key concepts and their content. The student identifies drugs, drug groups and special features of their use, and can connect them with the treatments of different illnesses. He/she understands the effect mechanisms of different drug groups. The student recognizes some injurious effects typical of different drug groups, and some clinically significant drug synergisms.

The student has an excellent understanding of the basic phases and effects of medicines in the body. He/she knows the key concepts and can apply their content to practice. The student identifies a wide variety of drugs, drug groups and special features of their use, and can connect them with the treatments of different illnesses. He/she has an excellent understanding of the effect mechanisms of different drug groups. The student recognizes the injurious effects typical of different drug groups, is familiar with clinically significant drug synergisms, and is able to apply this knowledge to practice.
