Objective

Students know how to plan and implement peripheral intravenous (IV) fluid treatment and medication safely according to the regulations. They are capable of observing, evaluating and reporting the effects of medication. Students master dosage calculations on peripheral IV fluid treatment and medication as well as added medication. They are able to prevent medication errors and act accordingly in situations involving such errors. Students are able to develop medication based on evidence.

Safety and aseptic protocols of peripheral intravenous fluid management and medication
Nurses’ responsibilities concerning peripheral IV fluid management and medication
Adding electrolytes, antibiotics and other medicines to intravenous infusion
Implementation of peripheral IV fluid management programme
Complications of peripheral IV fluid management and medication
Anaphylactoid reaction to medicines
Implementation and risk factors of peripheral IV cannulation
Evaluation and development of fluid treatment and medication
Dosage calculations related to fluid management and medication

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Satisfactory:
Students plan and implement peripheral intravenous (IV) fluid management and medication according to the regulations safely.
Students are familiar with the basics of observing, evaluating and reporting medication as well as identify emergency situations.
Students master dosage calculations on peripheral IV fluid management and medication immaculately as well as dosage calculations related to added medication (pass/fail).
Students identify risks involved in peripheral IV fluid management and medication and know how to act in medicine deviation incidents.
Students are aware of the significance of evidence-based knowledge to the development of medication.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Satisfactory:
Students plan and implement peripheral intravenous (IV) fluid management and medication according to the regulations safely.
Students are familiar with the basics of observing, evaluating and reporting medication as well as identify emergency situations.
Students master dosage calculations on peripheral IV fluid management and medication immaculately as well as dosage calculations related to added medication (pass/fail).
Students identify risks involved in peripheral IV fluid management and medication and know how to act in medicine deviation incidents.
Students are aware of the significance of evidence-based knowledge to the development medication.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Excellent:
Students plan and implement safe peripheral intravenous (IV) fluid management and medication according to regulations from a patient-oriented perspective justifying their actions.
Students observe, evaluate and report the effects of medication patient-orientedly as well as identify emergency situations and know how to act in them.
Students analyse and anticipate the risks related to peripheral IV fluid management and medication as well as act responsibly in medicine deviation situations and their prevention.
Students identify development targets related to medication, search and analyse evidence-based knowledge and apply it to the development of medication.
