Descriptions
In the degree program of Electrical and Automation Engineering, there is the possibility to specialize in two different majors: Automation Engineering and Electrical Engineering.
During the first year of Electrical and Automation Engineering studies, a theoretical and technical foundation is laid for future professional studies. In the first semester of studies (30 ECTS), all students complete common studies that include eg. communication, mathematical and natural science studies, and basic studies in electrical and automation engineering.
Students choose their major during the first academic year.
The structure of studies for Electrical Engineering and Automation Engineering majors is as follows:
• Common studies 30 ECTS
• Electrical and automation engineering studies 30 ECTS
• Second-year main subject-specific professional studies 60 ECTS
• Main subject-specific advanced studies 30-55 ECTS
• Optional study module and freely chosen studies totaling 0-25 ECTS
• Professional English 5 ECTS
• Innovation project and second national language 15 ECTS
• Two internship periods 30 ECTS
• Thesis 15 ECTS
TOTAL 240 ECTS
The second-year professional studies are mandatory and uniform for all students who have chosen the main subject. The Professional English course is recommended to be completed during the second year.
In the third and fourth years of Electrical Engineering and Automation Engineering studies, students deepen their expertise in their chosen major with advanced studies, of which students must choose at least 30 ECTS. In the Electrical Engineering major, advanced studies allow specialization in Building Electrical Engineering or Electrical Power Engineering. Students can broaden their expertise with an elective study module or elective studies. During the third and fourth years, students also complete a multidisciplinary innovation project and a second national language course according to their language of school education.
In addition to these studies, students must complete two mandatory 10-week internships in the field and, finally, carry out a thesis on a topic related to their degree program.

Opetussuunnitelmaa kehitetään yhdessä yritysten ja alaa edustavien tahojen kanssa. Tarvittavia muutoksia on kerätty alan yrityksiltä ja opiskelijoilta.Opetussuunnitelmaa tarkastellaan vuosittain tutkinto-ohjelman neuvottelukunnan kanssa.
