Supplementary Pedagogical Studies 2Laajuus (5 ECTS)

Objective

The student deepens their pedagogic awareness and capacity to act as a teacher of their own instrument, band leader and the expert of basic arts education general objectives. They are able to develop and apply different methods of learning and teaching to meet the learners’ different needs and the requirements of different working life situations. The student understands meanings of music education and is able to justify them from the viewpoint of the learner, community and society.

The student is able to reflect on their own musical background thinking, values , choices and strengths. They are able to describe and present their skills and development of their professional profile in writing, in videos and in recordings, e.g. in a professional ePortfolio. They are able to develop their own professional skills using networks.

Content

The common content of elementary art education (composing, improvisation, listening to and perceiving music), creative group activities and related teaching practice and guidance (either autumn or spring). Basics of band pedagogy and teaching practice differentiated according to the student´s orientation. Either advanced instrument practice and guidance or band practice and guidance according to the student’s choice. Finishing the professional ePortfolio. Observation, network assignment.

Qualifications

Supplementary Pedagogical Studies 1 course or equivalent skills.
