Osaamistavoitteet
Technical Writing and Presentation Skills
On completion of the course the student will be able to locate, reference and use relevant source material for the project at hand, as well as evaluate the reliability of web references; write reports on projects and present them orally; include and refer to tables, figures, mathematical expressions and other data appropriately in reports and oral presentations; cooperate and network with associates from other disciplines as well as communicate appropriately with various interest groups.
Environmental Assessment Introductory Project
Is able to draw up a project plan and knows how a project is managed. Is able to cooperate and network with associates from other disciplines and communicate appropriately with various interest groups. Can carry out a clearly limited project-like task within the field of sustainable building engineering.
Understands how the built environment affects nature, health, resources and society. Knows the principles of commonly used environmental assessment methods.

Technical Writing and Presentation Skills
• Sources: basics of locating, using and referencing relevant source material for an SBE project.
• Ethical issues: plagiarism
• Project communication: e-mail correspondence; memos; meetings; defending and opposing ideas; presentations, presentation graphics;
• Reporting results: planning, structuring and writing reports; conventions of technical writing and presentations; writing professional slides; include and refer to tables, figures, mathematical expressions and other data appropriately in reports and oral presentations
Environmental Assessment Introductory Project
Management of working life projects together with other students, teachers and industry clients. Basics of project work: planning, timetable, communication. Co-operation and communication skills. Creative problem solution.
Project work in teams of 5-6 students. During the course students can, for example, solve common problems in buildings, assist in environmental assessment of buildings or participate in research tasks. Students acquire knowledge about their topic using literature research and expert interviews. Project groups are responsible for making a project plan, communicating with clients, carrying out the project tasks and reporting the result both orally and in writing.

Writing:
The student knows how to write structured texts. The student is to an extent able to modify his or her texts according to context and text type.
Retrieval and use of information:
The student is mostly able to find information relevant to his or her needs. The student is familiar with the principles of evaluating the reliability of sources of information. The student is, with some help, able to document and refer to his or her sources correctly.

Can plan the use of own resources and carry out own tasks in time. Can in a project meeting describe the activities and results of own work group. Can explain the principles of quality assurance of own group’s work. Can present the plans and results of the work to a larger audience, both orally and in writing. Can explain how to cooperate and network with associates from other disciplines and communicate appropriately with various interest groups. Can give valuable input to the planning of the environmental assessment process of a building.
