Water in Municipal ServicesLaajuus (5 ECTS)

Course unit code: TX00BR24

General information

Credits
5 ECTS

Objective

After completing the course student knows how to plan with suitable design criteria and design water distribution networks as well as sewage collection and storm water drain networks. Student has learned the basic concept as well as selection of critical criteria and working principle used in long term planning of piping networks serving municipal needs.

Content

The content of the course includes the fundamentals of both industrial and municipal distribution and collection techniques. This is gives the student the understanding of the design process in connection to distribution and collection network hydraulics, mass balances and process and instrumentation solutions. The network stages such as intermediate pumping – storage, population, and conservation of the quality of water is made familiar to the student. Also remediation techniques of water distribution networks with alternative methods are highlighted.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

To define or describe the subject matter related to the concepts and phenomena qualitatively and calculate the associated basic quantitative comparisons and calculations

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student is able to apply, calculate, change and choose the concepts related to the matter and phenomena qualitatively and calculate the basic quantitative calculations as well as to complete and produce the necessary information for the calculations.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The students is able to categorize, collect, combine and generalize the concepts related to the matter and phenomena qualitatively and calculate the basic quantitative calculations as well as derive and rearrange given basic information.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

To define or describe the subject matter related to the concepts and phenomena qualitatively and calculate the associated basic quantitative comparisons and calculations
