Finnish as a Second Language: Academic Finnish 1Laajuus (5 ECTS)

Objective

After completing the study unit, the student understands the uses of Finnish in technical professions. The student knows and understands diverse texts in technical work and is able to refer to them.
The aim of the study is to reach a functional level of Finnish, which enables the student to study in Finnish as well as to work and improve oneself in technical professions, and to communicate in Finnish in a workplace.

Content

The study enforces mastery of central grammatical features, and introduces advanced level features such as sentence types, object inflection and plural forms, as well as structures that are used in paraphrasing. The student writes short texts that aim to be correct, fluent and accurate. The student becomes familiar with academic technical literature and articles in technical publications.

Qualifications

Student's skill level in Finnish must be at least B1.2.
