Descriptions

The Master's Degree Programme in Supply Chain Management strengthens student’s competence as a professional in strategic procurement. Upon graduation, the student shows evidence of being capable to plan and implement demanding change project in business life or other organisations, with sufficient research approach. He is able to act as a change agent and in superior positions. Competence targets have been defined in collaboration with working life. Knowledge, skills and competences which the student is learning will give ability to manage supplier interfaces and ability to complete successfully procurement of materials, components, machines, services, licences and competencies.

Master Degree Programme in Supply Chain Management consists of:
- Research and Development Skills (5 op)
- Advanced Professional Studies (20 ECTS)
- Elective Studies (5 ECTS)
- Master's Thesis (30 ECTS)

Advanced studies will increase the student's analytical and methodological competencies, and expertise in strategic procurement. The student may expand or improve their skills with elective studies. The student fills out an individual study plan (ISP).

The Master's Thesis is a development task, carried out as a project in the student's workplace or other partner organization. Its progress is reported in seminars throughout the study period. The maturity test is the last separate assignment of the Master's Thesis process.

The degree programme is carried out as part-time and is intended to be completed alongside work. The contact sessions are organised mainly during weeknights and on some occasions also on a Friday evening and Saturday combination. Optionality, combined with an intensive thesis work also allows full-time study. The duration of the studies is 1,5 years.

Development

The curriculum of the Supply Chain Management degree programme was updated for studies starting in autumn 2011. This reform aimed at ensuring sufficient methodological and analytical skills. Each one also studies strategic thinking and leadership skills that are required in demanding expert and management tasks.
The offering of other advanced studies has been updated annually. The offering and the structure of different ensembles of know-how was streamlined. The courses give five credits (ECTS) and are comprised to form broader entities in order to achieve deeper learning. Course selection is easier for students and the whole is also clearer guidance-wise and administratively.
