Objective

After the course the student is familiar with HR processes and is able to apply them in managerial work. The student knows the strategic background of human resources planning (talent and change management). The student is familiar with the key labor laws, such as the supervisor as the employer's representative. The student knows the human resource management laws and agreements and is able to use those when acting as a superior.

Content

The course deals with strategic human resource management and with human resources processes from the managerial point of view, using the employment life cycle as the approach. The course presents HR legislation and contracts. Also the effectiveness and efficiency of HR and the question of what it is to be a manager from a human resources point of view, are discussesd.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

• the student has some knowledge of the impact of human resources management activities on the organisation
• the student has a limited ability to apply human resources management thinking in his or her own area of expertise
• the student understands and knows only the basics of how to use key concepts and basic content of the course
• the student inadequately justifies his or her personal view, inadequately expresses critical evaluation, reflection and development proposals
• uses only some sources

Assessment criteria, good (3)

• the student has good knowledge of the impact of of human resource management in the organization
• the student is able to apply human reources management thinking with flexibility in his or her own area of expertise
• the student understands and knows the basics of how to use key concepts and basic content of the course
• the student is able to give examples and to describe the basics of the course clearly and logically
• the student is able to justify his or her personal view and critical evaluation, and to express justified reflection and development proposals
• uses several different sources

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

• the student has an excellent knowledge of the impact of human resources management on the organisations
• can apply human resources management thinking with flexibility and insight in his or her area of expertise
• the student has an excellent understanding and knowledge of the basics of how to use key concepts and basic content of the course
• the student is able to give examples connected to his or her personal experiences and to describe the basics of the course clearly and logically
• the student has excellent communication skills; is fluent in writing and expressing his or her profound and well-justified views
• uses several different sources, also international, and is able to combine and apply those innovatively

Further information

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
The course can be accredited on the basis of prior learning, if the student has profound studies in human resources management and / or has worked for a longer period as a superior for larger group of people.
