Descriptions

Health Business Management is a multidisciplinary Master’s degree programme for Bachelor's degree holders coming from various backgrounds. For Bachelors of Engineering who have work experience from and/or career plans to work in the restructuring social and health care public sector, or in private companies operating in the field, this is a rather unique opportunity.

Innovative solutions and new business models are sought for to renew the sector: how to provide services economically and efficiently, yet maintaining high quality and a human-oriented scope in all decisions and activities. Engineering graduates, business graduates, as well as graduates from Health Care and Social Services, will jointly tackle the various problem-solving situations and learning tasks. Sharing everyone’s expertise becomes an added value.

The HBM Master’s students will be offered an environment to practice and enhance their international and communication skills in a very multicultural group of peers, staff and faculty. Lectures, seminars, workshops as well as materials and outputs are all in English.

The core of the advanced professional studies includes: Health Business Economics and Business Models; Strategy, Management and Leadership; Service Innovations and Design; as well as Quality Management. Elective studies complete the skill set according to individual needs.

Sufficient RDI competence is provided at an early stage of the studies. A Master’s Thesis, typically a development task planned for and implemented in the organization in which the Master’s student is employed, is one of the most rewarding parts of the program.

Structure of Studies (60 ECTS):
Advanced Professional Studies, 25 ECTS, of which
* Core Advanced Studies, 20 ECTS
* Research, Development and Innovation Methods and Tools, 5 ECTS
Optional Studies, 5 ECTS
Master’s Thesis, 30 ECTS

When studying on a part-time basis, the Master of Engineering degree can be obtained from the HBM Master’s program in 1.5 years, with some flexibility both ways.

Development

The curriculum has been inspected and approved by the Master’s degree advisory board of the Department of Health Care Diagnostic Services and Service Management on 24.1.2018.
