The goal of Master’s degree studies in Information Technology is to provide a student with the latest knowledge and skills required in advanced tasks in the information technology.

The Master’s degree programme consists of studies of 60 ECTS. A Final Project (Master of Engineering Thesis) plays a major role in the Master’s degree constituting a total of 30 ECTS. The project is usually done for the industry.

Professional studies provide students with the latest knowledge and skills to follow the professional development of the field, both from the applied research and practical viewpoints.

A graduate acquires the following competencies from the degree:

The latest knowledge in a chosen specialisation option
Ability to conduct applied research projects
Information acquisition skills and adaptation of new knowledge
The latest knowledge in advanced programming
Problem-solving skills

Specialisation options:

Mobile Programming
The specialisation option includes courses in the latest mobile programming technology such as eLinux, Symbian and AJAX.

In the first study year, classes are held two to three evenings per week. In the second study year students compile an industry-related Final Project.

The degree prepares a graduate towards specialist and designer tasks in various areas of ICT business such as in telecommunications industries, software enterprises, service providers and in other IT-related companies.

Multimedia Communications
The specialisation option includes courses in the mobile multimedia technologies including H.264 video coding and communication systems for multimedia delivery, including 3G, IP-TV, digital-TV and DVB-H.

The first year studies include one half day and one or two evenings per week. During the second study year the students compile an industry-related Final Project.

The degree prepares a graduate towards specialist and designer tasks in telecommunication industries, broadcsting and multimedia companies and other IT-related companies.

Development

The curriculum is developed and updated in collaboration with the local IT industry and the Information Technology Degree Programme Advisory Board.

Further information

In the curriculum of Information Technology Master degree programme, the courses relate to the latest technologies and include many practical exercises. The Final Project covers half of the studies.
