Objective
The student deepens his/her knowledge of his/her professional expertise and learns to take responsibility for work projects. The student learns to evaluate his/her own expertise and complements those fields of expertise in an appropriate manner.
During this process the student applies the data search methods relevant to his/her own field of study, adapts previously acquired information with new information and creates new solutions and interpretations. He/she will learn to perceive details when part of a larger context. The student knows how to write a written report on his/her work including description, analysis and clarifying examples of the process and the results of the work.
After the thesis student writes the maturity test in which s/he shows familiarity with the field as well as management of the Finnish language.
Content
1. Planning and problem-solving ability

3. Application of theory into practice and use of literature references
4. Argumentation, and justifying the choices made during the process
5. Independent working skills
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
1. The student writes a thesis plan, makes a schedule and understands the project objectives.
2. The thesis follows the thesis guidelines and includes all the required sections.
3. The relevant theory is treated referring to dozens of reliable sources of reference.
4. The student is able to draw conclusions of his/her findings.
5. The thesis process requires constant supervision.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
1. The thesis process proceeds more or less as intended. The student is able to develop problem-solving methods under guidance.
2. The structure of the thesis and the language are good.
3. The student combines theory into practice consistently. The sources are identified in the text and the bibliography correctly.
4. The student reflects on the significance of the results.
5. The student has learned during the process to work independently in the laboratory and to make the work schedules.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
1. The thesis process proceeds according to sthe chedule. The student uses creative thinking in problem-solving and produces a new solution.
2. The linguistic form of the thesis is fluent, it does not contain any grammatical errors or laboratory jargon and does not require much editing from the supervisors. The foreign-language summary is very well prepared using the professional vocabulary appropriately.
3. The aterial of the thesis is clearly limited. The student applies theory to practice and uses a demanding source effortlessly. The student's use of reliable literature sources is exceptionally extensive.
4. The student makes conclusions of the obtained results, makes suggestions for improvement, and ponders deeply the significance of the results to the theory of reference.
5. The student works independently in the laboratory and during the thesis writing process.
