Experimental Analytical ChemistryLaajuus (4 ECTS)
Course unit code: TB00AB02
General information
- Credits
- 4 ECTS
Objective
The student will adopt good theoretical and practical skills for using analytical methods and techniques and he/she is able to work independently and responsibly as well as economically in a chemical laboratory taking into account safety, quality and environmental factors. Special emphasis will be put on following precise, appropriate and careful work practices. The student knows how to fill in a laboratory notebook, how to evaluate uncertainty and report the results.
Content
1. Gravimetric and titrimetric analyses
2. Reporting and evaluation of analysis results
Qualifications
TB00AB11 Fundamentals of Laboratory Practices
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
1. The student is able to conduct a titrimetric and gravimetric analysis, and has made all the required assignments. The student has made the notes in a laboratory notebook.
2. The report includes all the required issues and results have been reported with the right number of significant figures.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
1.The student works thoroughly and objectively in the laboratory and does not exceed a 2% error limit in titrimetric and gravimetric analyses. He/she understands the theoretical background of the analysis. Lab notebook contains all relevant data.
2. The reports have a clear structure and the right issues are emphasized. The results include the measurement uncertainty estimates and the student is able to make independent conclusions. The linguistic form is good.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
1. The student is able to combine theory and practice easily and is able to carry out high quality analyses independently, not exceeding a 1% error limit in titrimetric and a 1.5% error limit in gravimetric analyses.
2.The student keeps to the schedule and is able to apply measurement uncertainty evaluation to practice successfully. The linguistic form of reports is excellent.
