Objective
On completion of the course the student will be able to
- explain the most important definitions of renovation and process flow for repair work and the difference between renovation and new construction
- define the main methods for condition assessments of buildings
- list reasons to repair buildings
- compare the share of different repairs of buildings now and in the future
- explain the importance of protecting buildings as preserving the architectural heritage and list the existing methods
- list inventions of building construction history and place them in chronological order
- Identify buildings in the architectural history of the world and their architectural styles
- Identify the most important Finnish buildings from different time periods, their styles and building techniques
- List building materials and structures of different eras
- List the damages and defects in buildings of different eras and their causes
- Compare the impact of repair work on the usefulness of the building and the building users

- List the phases of a repair process and to list the differences between renovation and new construction
- Define the condition assessment and condition survey of a building
- List reasons for renovation
- List a variety of repair works of buildings and their share at the present and in the future
- Identify the means of building protection in preserving architectural heritage and list the existing methods
- List inventions of building construction history and place them in chronological order
- Identify buildings in the architectural history of the world and their architectural styles
- Identify the most important Finnish buildings from different time periods, their styles and building techniques
- List building materials and structures of different eras
- List the damages and defects of buildings of different eras and their causes
