Objective

The course will clarify and enhance the student’s understanding of the aspects of air conditioning discussed in theoretical studies. The student will acquire an insight into the qualities of various measuring instruments, measuring accuracy and limitations of measurements.

Content

Laboratory exercises on subjects to be decided later, such as balancing ventilation ductwork, fan qualities, survey of air distribution, qualities of heat recovery equipment and operations of control devices of air conditioning apparatus.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student participates in all measurement taking, completes the given pre-assignments, prepares acceptable measurement reports and passes the laboratory exam. The student has an overall understanding of laboratory exercises related to air conditioning.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

In addition to the above, the student understands the limitations and margins of error of different methods. He or she is familiar with the topics of the laboratory exercises and is able to create thorough measurement reports.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In addition to the above, the student shows initiative in measurement taking and creates measurement reports with a thorough examination of methods and results. The student is able to apply different measurement techniques in finding out the properties of HVAC systems.
