Objective

On completion of the course the student will understand the construction process of a small building, the parties of the process as well as the factors guiding the process. He or she will be familiar with the structure and basic principles of the regulations governing building construction. The student will be familiar with the types and terms for various buildings, structural elements and constructions, as well as the materials and properties of them. He or she will understand the function and operation of different structural elements and constructions.
The student will be familiar with the placement options for HVACE equipment and installations in various types of frame and construction solutions, as well as concepts related to moisture proofing. The student is able use computer software to create a structural section and a ground plan.

Content

The construction process, legislation and regulations, construction drawings, the building, structural elements, constructions and materials, water proofing, moisture proofing and thermal insulation, concepts related to water and vapour proofing, structural solutions.
The connection between HVACE systems and constructions, space and route charges, computer based construction design, central concepts related to fire safety and soundproofing.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student is familiar with the basic structural solutions, drawing symbols and phases of a construction process. The student is able to interpret architectural drawings and symbols. He or she is familiar with the principles of the effects of building engineering system solutions on construction design.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

In addition to the requirements listed above, the student is able to apply the learned knowledge and skills independently in construction planning in the course assignment.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In addition to the requirements listed above, the student is able to critically and analytically compare the effect of different construction solutions on the compatibility of building services engineering and civil engineering.
