Objective

After completing this course the student will understand the statistical nature of numerical data and some fundamental facts associated with data analysis. He or she will be familiar with the basic concepts and methods in statistical estimation and testing and the nature and significance of regression models. After completing the course the student will be able to prepare some elementary tests (test planning), estimate parameters and execute various statistical tests. The student will be able to determine the regression line and make correct conclusions about the connection between statistical variables.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

1) Data-analysis
The student is familiar with the scales of measure, the most important characteristics and connections between statistical variables. The student is able to analyze and compare data and study dependencies between variables at least graphically and by straightforward utilization of given formulas.
2) Estimation
The student understands the fundamental concepts in sampling and estimation and he/she is capable of associated elementary calculations.
3) Testing
The student understands the fundamental concepts in testing and he/she is capable of associated elementary calculations.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

1) Data-analysis
The student has a good command of the scales of measure, the most important characteristics and connections between statistical variables. The student is able to analyze and compare data and study dependencies between variables.
2) Estimation
The student has a good understanding of the fundamental concepts in sampling and estimation and he/she is capable of associated calculations.
3) Testing
The student has a good understanding of the fundamental concepts in testing and he/she is capable of associated elementary calculations.

1) Data-analysis
The student has an excellent command of the scales of measure, the most important characteristics and connections between statistical variables. The student is able to analyze and compare data and study dependencies between variables in a skillful manner.
2) Estimation
The student has a profound understanding of the fundamental concepts in sampling and estimation and he/she has an excellent command of associated calculations.
3) Testing
The student has a profound understanding of the fundamental concepts in testing and he/she has an excellent command of associated calculations.
