Objective

Students learn the fundamental principles and techniques needed to be an artist in the games industry. Students can use the industry standard tools to create, implement and test graphics in a games production.

Content

2D
- Principles of colour, light and composition.
- Traditional drawing techniques.
- 1,2 and 3 point perspective.
- Style Guide overview.
- Introduction to Photoshop and digital workflow techniques.
- Character, background and user interface design.
- 2d Animation and sprite sheet creation.
- Implementing game graphics into Construct 2 game engine.
- Introduction to Flash.

3D
- Introduction to 3ds max.
- Modeling low polygon game props.
- Unwrapping and texturing game props.
- Optimizing game models.

Qualifications

Preliminary test

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student has a basic understanding of the 2d/3d game graphics principles and creation process.
Students can use the industry standard tools to create game graphics to an acceptable standard.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student has a good understanding of the 2d/3d game graphics principles and creation process. Students create game graphics to a good consistent standard and show a willingness to learn more.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student has an excellent understanding of the 2d/3d game graphics principles and creation process. Ability to produce game graphics to a very high standard. Excellent motivation and willingness to improve and take their skill set to the next level.
