Objective

On completion of the course the student will be familiar with the different learning skill areas and will know how to develop his or her learning skills. The student will know how learning skills support learning and studying. The student will be able to interpret and compose basic documents in his or her field, apply Finnish language usage recommendations to basic documents in his or her field, communicate on the web appropriately, locate and use information in his or her field critically, report orally and in writing and assess and develop his or her communication skills.

Content

Learning skill areas, one’s own strengths and development areas. Different ways of learning and learning techniques. Resources supporting studying. Formal texts and document layout. Principals of reporting and report as a genre: structure, language, layout, use of source material, paraphrasing, documenting references in the text, illustration of information, and layout. Use of Finnish and writing conventions and Finnish language usage recommendations in technical texts. Locating relevant source material and critical use of information sources in the field. Basics of online communication. Planning and illustrating an oral presentation.
