Objective

On completion of the course the student will
- understand basic geodetic terminology
- understand the fundamentals of geophysics and mathematics in geodesy
- be familiar with the functionalities and use of common geodetic instruments
- know how to perform plane coordinate based geodetic calculations

On completion of the course the student will be able to
- use common geodetic instruments
- perform basic geodetic calculations

Content

Basic concepts in geodetic measurement techniques. Measurement units. Concepts of accuracy. The measurement of heights, height differences, angles and distances. The basics of geodetic calculations and calculation of observations. The basics of satellite measurements. Ground control point measurements. Mapping and stake out measurements. Geodetic measurements in planning of physical environment.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student is able to explain the methods of basic geodesy. He or she can perform leveling with the necessary calculations and is able to start working with an electronic tachymeter.
