Objective

The course provides an overview of construction tasks, the built environment and the data and know-how required in construction work.
On completion of the course, the student will be able to make observations of the built environment and field work sites, and report on these.
The student understands the importance of infrastructure construction as part of the society.
The student can use the most common software products used in construction.
The student knows what Building Information Modelling (BIM) is and can use instructions and articles related to it. The student can work individually and in a group to complete assignments.
The student is familiar with working methods and problem solving methods used by engineers and understands the principles of project work.
The student is familiar with the terminology, regulations and information sources of the field and can communicate efficiently with colleagues and stakeholders.
The student is oriented to the professional field and motivated to carry out engineering studies.

Observing the built environment
The phases of a building project, parties involved and co-operation
Infrastructures in house building or road construction
Basics of information technology
CAD and BIM
Basics of construction physics
Communication and interaction
1. Locating relevant source materials and critical use of information sources in the field
2. Basics of Internet communication
3. Oral communication and interaction, public speaking, preparation of public presentations and persuasion
