General information

Credits
5 ECTS

Objective

After finishing the course, the student is familiar with the properties, production methods and uses of different biomaterials
The student understands the enzymatic reactions that take place in the raw materials and the methods for preventing or strengthening the reactions. He or she knows the possibilities and ways of using enzymes in the most common industrial and analytical applications.
During the course the student becomes familiar with new materials (i.e. wooden raw materials, nanomaterials, microbe- based energy sources). He or she understands the possibilities of the materials from an environmental point of view.

Content

1. Properties and uses of different biomaterials, their biological degradation and recycling

2. Use of different groups of enzymes in the food, paper, medical, textile and chemical industries and in analytics.

3. Uses of new materials in biotechnology and food production
