Osaamistavoitteet
Students learn to recognise their own strengths and weaknesses in writing in English and develop strategies to improve the style, register and accuracy of their writing in business, academic and creative contexts.The course also features elements of contemporary written business communication.

By the end of this course the student will have learned how to:
- apply rules, tips, ideas and theories of various forms of writing to their own writing in English.
- revise, correct and improve their own writing.
- clarify and eliminate problem areas in their writing of English.
- exploit existing Internet resources for self-study in English.
- plan, draft and edit coherent texts in English according to their specific needs

Improving English writing skills in a business, academic or creative context according to their needs and wishes. Improving knowledge of grammar, style and register and error correction on an individual basis.

The online nature of this course allows adult evening students flexibility to study and work individually in their own time on their writing in English and according to their own needs. Students may choose for instance to develop their English writing skills in a business, academic or creative context and can select writing assignments according to their specific needs and wishes.

(This is not a course for beginners or year 1 day AMK students)

The student will require regular access to a good Internet connection over the course period.
All course resource material is contained in the Moodle learning environment.
Using the online resources, the student selects, works on and completes writing assignments and a major project according to his/her own needs.
The student also engages in writing with the others in the course through forums, bulletins and postings in Moodle. Feedback is given either written corrections and comments made on the printed paper and returned via mail or written feedback electronically, depending on the amount and type of feedback required.
The student commences the course by identifying his/her wishes, current needs and problem areas in writing English. The student is responsible for fully exploiting the Internet resources and will be working alongside the other participants on the course, sharing experiences and giving each other feedback when required. Students will be expected to participate in online discussions and post bulletins.
The student must complete the course within a defined period (eg 8 weeks) At the end of the defined period, he/she is taken out of the environment to allow another student to start.
The facilitator, Louise Stansfield, is a native English teacher with 23 years of teaching experience and a keen interest in online learning. She speaks Finnish and has lived here for 20 years – but you will interact solely in English with her!
