Ensemble Pedagogy 1Laajuus (3 ECTS)

Objective

The student gains familiarity with the educational methods of band instruction on various levels, becomes experienced in choosing or arranging teaching material at the appropriate level and gains facilities for the Band Pedagogy 2 course.

Content

- The roles and tasks of the band members and the bandleader
- Introduction to instruments and sound equipment
- Familiarization with performance situations
- Linking of band activities with other studies
- Selection and preparation of repertoire

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The student:
• has participated in lessons as agreed
• has carried out the agreed tasks
• is able to work independently
• is familiar with the basics of rhythm section playing, as well as associated equipment, such as amplifiers
• can choose appropriate music for various groups of different levels and is able to use appropriate written preparation methods
• is able to teach their own transcription or song arrangement during a group lesson
• has completed the exam satisfactorily

Further information

Qualifications: The student manages the role and tasks of a leader of an elementary-level band.
This study unit is recommended to coincide with Band Leading 1.
