Band Leading 2Laajuus (3 ECTS)

Objective

The student gains practical facilities to act as a leader of a band on the I level in practice, studio, and performance situations. The student is able to select and prepare repertoire and teaching material of the appropriate level, and gains facilities for the Orchestra Conducting Project.

Qualifications

Completion of Music Pedagogy course is not required of Music Producer majors; Ensemble Pedagogy 1 and Band Leading 1 courses are not required of Theory Teacher or Music Producer majors.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student:
• has completed training as agreed
• has carried out the agreed tasks
• is able to work independently
• is able to choose, prepare and rehearse conservatory-level repertoire for a small ensemble in the agreed time frame
• is able to satisfactorily respond to the pedagogic challenges of developing a band's musical expression
• is able to give a lecture satisfactorily

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student:
• has completed training as agreed
• has carried out the agreed tasks well
• is able to work independently
• is able to adeptly choose, prepare and rehearse conservatory-level repertoire for a small ensemble in the agreed time frame
• is able to adeptly respond to the pedagogic challenges of developing a band's musical expression
• is able to give a lecture to a good standard

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student:
• has completed training as agreed
• has carried out the agreed tasks commendably
• is able to work independently
• is able to commendably choose, prepare and rehearse conservatory-level repertoire for a small ensemble in the agreed time frame
• is able to respond commendably to the pedagogic challenges of developing a band's musical expression
• is able to give a lecture to an excellent standard

Further information

Qualifications: The student is able to rehearse pop/jazz repertoire with bands that have passed basic level.
This study unit is recommended to coincide with the Band Pedagogy 2 course (or after it).
