Objective

Students learn to analyze themes, rhythms, harmony and forms in Afro-American music and are able to put to use what they have learned in stylistically correct ways.

Content

- Transcription of thematic sections, basic rhythms and forms as well as diatonic harmony
- Identification of instruments
- Oral analysis of assignments
- Approx. 10 pieces from the list of Afro-American music standards
