Objective

Students are familiar with creating vocal sound and singing, anatomy of vocal system, breathing technique and body control. Students learn the use of professional singing vocabulary. Students are familiar with different methods of using voice in different singing situations. Students learn articulation and phrasing through basics of phonetics.

Content

Anatomy of vocal system – singing as a physical phenomenon - breathing technique and body control – voice registers and types – microphones and pa-systems – characteristics of vocal group singing.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student:
• has participated in class
• understands voice production and singing-related anatomy
• is familiar with breathing techniques and with body control
• has studied the professional vocabulary related to voice production and singing
• understands vocal registers and voice types
• has participated in the exam

Assessment criteria, good (3)

In addition, the student:
• is able to produce a healthy speech and singing voice
• is familiar with the principles of singing into microphones
• is familiar with vocal equipment

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In addition, the student:
• is able to control his/her voice in a studio situation
• can manage the use of a variety of vocal effects
• is able to define the methods and techniques used by different vocalists

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The student:
• has participated in class

• is familiar with breathing techniques and with body control
• has studied the professional vocabulary related to voice production and singing
