Objective

The student learns to differentiate and analyze various details and entities in an audio example, and is able to evaluate the technical and artistic quality of recordings.

Content

- Defining instruments and sound elements and their balance
- Use of spectrum, space (ambience) and dynamics
- Stereophonic image
- Aural analysis of the characteristics of sound
- Use of visual sound analysis devices (e.g. vu-meters, spectrum analyzer)

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student:
• has participated in class
• is able to isolate and analyze the details and aspects of sounds, and can evaluate the technical and artistic quality of sound recordings
• has completed agreed exercises

Assessment criteria, good (3)

In addition, the student:
• is able to analyze sound characteristics by ear
• is familiar with the spectrum, space, dynamics and stereo imaging of recordings in various styles of music

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In addition, the student:
• understands instruments and the sound separation of different musical elements, as well as the balance between them
• knows how to use visual analysis tools, such as VU meters and spectrum analyzers
