Music Mixing 2Laajuus (3 ECTS)

Objective

Mastering the complex mixing styles and techniques: The student deepens his/her know how in different mixing styles and methods. The student masters the basics of surround mixing and special characters of ambience processors.

Content

Mastering the frequency compressors and harmonic processors. Complex stereo routings. Parallel compression. Mixing of the bigger pop-/jazz- ensembles (e.g. big band). Surround techniques and processing. Applied use of the mixing techniques in demanding mixing situations. Use of DAW- controllers in mixing situations.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student:
• attends lessons
• understands musical balance and processing techniques for different styles of music
• knows how to use different equalizers, reverb processors and dynamics processors in mixing
• understands the basic functions of a DAW controller

Assessment criteria, good (3)

In addition, the student:
• knows how to use a DAW controller fluently
• knows how to mix using analog equipment
• knows the basics of multichannel mixing
• knows how to constructively communicate with musicians and a producer

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In addition, the student:
• knows how to combine analog and digital processing in mixing
• knows how to create a multichannel audio mix
