Objective

The student deepens his/hers skills in microphone techniques and learns the differences between different microphone types. The student masters the advanced stereo- / ambience- and surround miking techniques.

Content

Mastering the special features of different microphone types. The designing of the microphone setup for acoustic recording situations, and the cooperative action of microphones. Surround microphone techniques. Characteristic features of stereo miking techniques.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student:
• attends lessons
• knows the principles and uses of studio microphones in mono, stereo and multichannel recording
• knows how to plan microphone techniques for both studio and concert recording

Assessment criteria, good (3)

In addition, the student:
• knows how microphone preamplifiers affect the outcome of a recording
• knows how to make artistically suitable microphone choices and techniques for different styles of music

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In addition, the student:
• knows the internal construction of various microphones
• knows the most important multichannel microphone techniques and how to practically apply them
