Objective
In addition to instrument proficiency, performing and discourse communication are important instruments for musicians and music educators. During the course, the student will learn to observe his/her technical and artistic performing skills as well as his/her interpretation skills. The student can communicate as an expert in a structured, understandable and convincing manner. He/she can take into account the group dynamics, the receiver, the performing situation and the demands of his/her field of expertise. The student can reason, direct, lead and impact with language. He/she can give and receive feedback in a communication situation within a working community. The student can listen, observe and interpret wordless and oral messages.

- Preparing for a perfoming situation
- Group dynamics
- Skills of expression
- Performing assuredness: Body language, influecing by speaking, discussing and interacting within a group, and stage presence
- Speech expression and using the voice
- Planning of the speaking situation and demonstration: Statement, introduction, directing and teaching situation, peer assessment, stage speaking (announcing)
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The student:
• has participated in teaching
• has completed the agreed tasks
• is able to set their own targets
• is able to work independently
• has practiced performance in a band
• is able to analyze their own performance practice
• has practiced communication in a band
• has practiced communication as a professional
• is able to analyze their own views on music
• is familiar with the requirements of their field
• has practiced report making
• has practiced speech making
• has practiced the construction of an entire performance
• is familiar with performance body language
Assessment criteria, good (3)
In addition, the student:
• understands their performance in relation to themselves, their band and their audience
• understands their own role in the performance situation and is able to communicate their own views on their music
• knows how to prepare for a performance
• knows how to apply lessons learned in future performances
• knows how to plan an entire performance
• is able to express themselves creatively

In addition, the student:
• is able to perform creatively and communicate with the audience and their band
• knows how to apply lessons learned creatively and skillfully in future
• understands their own role during performance
• understands dynamic changes in a performance
• knows how to listen, observe and interpret spoken and un-spoken messages
