Objective

Students know how to analyse different cultures and lifestyles and are capable of evaluating their significance to the lives of individuals and communities. Students grasp the implication of attitudes and prejudices for the work in the social service sector. They are familiar with the nature of work in social services and its special demands on their actions.

Content

Central concepts. Culture and lifestyles. Different cultures. Cultural conflicts and collisions. Challenges to interaction, standard language, use of interpreters. Work for tolerance. The Non-Discrimitation Act and the Act on the Integration of Immigrants and Reception of Asylum Seekers.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Satisfactory (1-2)
Students use the appropriate core concepts as well as make choices using the knowledge base of their own professional field. They recognise the prerequisites and consequences of their own actions.

Students’ actions follow the rules and instructions given, and they use working methods appropriately and safely.

Students work according to the professional ethics of their own field, and they act responsibly as group members.
