Objective
After completing the study unit, students
• are familiar with the special features of the perioperative nursing environment.
• know how to work using the aseptic protocols correctly in the surgical ward.
• are familiar with the most common forms of anaesthesia, their benefits and disadvantages as well as know how to make preparations for them based on the previously acquired information on the patient.
• are familiar with the anaesthesia medication, their indications for use and dosage.
• can implement medication safely in the clinical practice placement.
• can observe the patient during anaesthesia as well as use various monitoring and anaesthesiological equipment.
• know how to maintain anesthesia.
• can implement a safe surgical position during the procedure in cooperation with the surgical team.
• can regulate patient’s body temperature during anaesthesia.
• know how patients are cared for in special care units.
• can report anaesthesiological nursing under supervision.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
Students are familiar with the most common forms of anaesthesia, their benefits and disadvantages as well as are able to prepare the patient for the anaesthesia based on the previously acquired information on the patient. Students are familiar with the most common anaesthesia medication, their indications for use and dosage. Students can implement medication safely in the clinical practice placement and observe the patient during anaesthesia as well as use various monitoring and anaesthesiological equipment.

Basics of Clinical Nursing, Anatomy, Physiology and Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, Decision-Making in Nursing and Reporting, Surgery, Basics of Medication, Medication, Medication and Pain Management as well as Perioperative Nursing.
