Objective
Students understand the significance of ophthalmoscopy in assessing the health of the eye and the screening nature of the examination in an Optometrist's work. They are familiar with different ophthalmoscopic techniques, being capable of making use of the properties of these.
Students are aware of the most common general and ocular diseases causing changes in the fundus, being capable of identifying changes caused by these in the eye. They understand the effects of changes on vision and are able to refer clients for further examinations as required.
Content
A normal ocular fundus and its structures, changes in the eye caused by the most common ocular and general diseases; documentation of examination results; referral to an ophthalmologist for further examination; examination routines, examination practicals.
