Optics 1Laajuus (3 ECTS)

Objective

Students understand light as part of the electromagnetic spectrum, reflection and refraction of light in plane, prismatic and spherical surfaces and the generation of the power effect.
Students understand the eye as an optical system and know how to apply a paraxial schematic eye in calculations, understanding the limitations of modelling. They understand the functions of near and distance optical devices and the structures of related applications.

Content

Reflection of light and determining the angle of reflection, refraction in the medium; thick and thin lenses; movement of light in the paraxial and peripheral regions of a lens; optical devices; the electromagnetic spectrum, wave motion, prism.
