Oral Health Care and Guidance of the ElderlyLaajuus (3 ECTS)

Objective

The student is able to explain theories of ageing and changes in the body related to ageing. S/he is able to describe the main geriatric illnesses and their treatment. S/he can explain the political challenges of geriatric health care. S/he can explain the general illnesses and is able to asses the potential of oral health care in preventing and treating them. S/he is able to justify the principles of an oral health examination of an elderly person. S/he is able to guide the nursing personnel, patients and their relatives in daily oral care. S/he is able to plan, implement, and evaluate educational sessions for the nursing personnel about geriatric oral health care.
