Objective
Students are familiar with provision of laboratory services as a whole. Students are familiar with the internal and external clients of laboratories and internalise the principles of good service. Students understand the significance of pre-analytical factors to the results of laboratory analyses, become accustomed to dealing with patients, obtain basic skills in taking different types of samples and basic knowledge of the principles of handling samples. Students become capable of carrying out routine patient examinations and sample tests performed in primary health care. Students familiarise themselves with the basic instruments, devices and techniques needed in the work of Biomedical Laboratory Technologists. Students master aseptic procedures and know how to work safely and in compliance with occupational ergonomics.

Laboratory work processes, client relationships in provision of laboratory services, client service, principles of good service, guiding clients in laboratory tests
Pre-analytic techniques, reference values
Blood samples; excretion, secretion and exudate samples; microbiological samples; cytological samples
