Objective
Students are familiar with key legislation governing health care and social services and with different ways of organising services. Students understand the significance of client-focused methods in health care and social services and rehabilitation. Students are aware of the value base of the health care and social services sector and are capable of acting accordingly.
Students recognise future challenges relating to the health care and social services sector and are familiar with tools used to identify these. Students familiarise themselves with the development and nature of clinical laboratory science. Students analyse the work of Biomedical Laboratory Technologists in different operating environments within health care and social services and are familiar with international activities in their own field. Students understand the significance of laboratory activities in the system of health care and social services and familiarise themselves with quality approaches.
Content
Key legislation governing health care and social services, different ways of providing and funding health services, ethics in health care and social services, future challenges for the health care and social services sector
Development of the work of Biomedical Laboratory Technologists, clinical laboratory science in national and international terms, nature of biomedical laboratory work in different organisations, significance of laboratory activities to health care and social services and to the treatment of patients, legal provisions steering professional practice, quality of laboratory activities.
