Clinical BiochemistryLaajuus (12 ECTS)
Course unit code: SBXXB23
General information
- Credits
- 12 ECTS
Objective
Students command the pre-analytical requirements and clinical significance of the most common clinical biochemistry tests, know how to perform analyses and understand the principles of the techniques that they use. Students are able to assess the reliability of laboratory results and testing processes and apply quality control methods in their own work. Students understand the operating principles of clinical chemistry analysers and know how to operate and service this equipment. Students are capable of taking responsibility for development of POC analyses.
Content
Key clinical biochemistry tests, including special requirements for taking and handling samples, analysis and methodological principles, assessment of the reliability of results, clinical significance and sources of error for assays, and covering proteins, enzymes, hydrocarbons, lipids, electrolytes, bile pigments, acid-base balance and basic urine tests
Quality control in clinical chemistry tests
Working with automation and point of care (POC) analyses in clinical chemistry
Methods validation and development of laboratory work in clinical chemistry.
