Objective

On completion of the course the student will understand how and why to design games for specific audiences.

Content

The course covers mostly theoretical topics on game design and understanding play, occasionally applied in practical examples. Practicals will involve very little programming, instead working mostly with paper/pencil and cards at first.

The main theme is designing for specific audiences, understanding types of players and applying metrics to measure aspects of player satisfaction.

Qualifications

The course assumes some prior knowledge of game design.

The student has basic knowledge of good player-centered game design principles.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student has basic skills and qualification of good game design principles and he/she can apply them in designing games.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student has basic skills and qualification of good game design principles and he/she can apply them in designing games resulting in successful game tests.
