Osaamistavoitteet
After completing the course the student knows the electromagnetic fields and waves and the RF spectrum. The student understands radio wave propagation modes and attenuation parameters and the antenna characteristics. The student has skills to calculate radio transmitter radiated power, radio wave power density and field strength, radio channel attenuation, effective area (capture area) of an antenna and received power at the radio receiver.

Electromagnetic fields:
-understands the structure and parameters of the field model.
Radio wave propagation:
-knows propagation modes and is able to calculate the free space power loss (FSPL) in radio channel.
Antennas and transmission lines:
-understands the functioning of antenna and transmission lines and the meaning of load matching operation and is able to calculate the transmitter radiated power.
Transmitters and receivers:
-knows the basic constructions of radio devices and understands the concepts of noise figure and noise temperature.

-understands the meaning and interpretation of the Maxwell equations.
Radio wave propagation:
-understands and is able to calculate the radio horizon distance and the Fresnel zone radius.
Antennas and transmission lines:
-knows antenna parameters and is able to calculate the antenna gain.
Transmitters and receivers:
-understands the functioning of radio device units.

-knows basic components and circuits and different radio applications.
