Objective
The student will be familiar with the basic concepts of general and inorganic chemistry as well as the regularities in natural sciences, will understand their meaning and will be able to apply the knowledge in his or her professional field. The student will be familiar with the chemical properties of essential building materials, and the effects of chemical stress factors in the environment on building materials. The student will be familiar with waste management in construction, safe handling of chemicals and the most common hazardous substances in construction.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The course assessment is made based on the student’s knowledge of the central chemical concepts and ability to apply his or her knowledge, the student’s skills in acquiring and processing information and his or her communication skills related to the topics of the course. The methods of assessment are course exams, assignments and other written and oral presentations.
The student is familiar with the central concepts of the course topics and their meaning, and is able to solve basic problems. The student is able to create written and oral presentations related to chemistry in construction.

The student is familiar with the concepts related to the course topics, understands their meaning and knows their applications, and is able to solve basic problems in chemistry. The student is able to create written and oral presentations related to chemistry in construction discussing the topic thoroughly.
