Objective

The purpose of the Studies at Building Site module is to ensure that the student getting a Construction Manager degree in Building Services Engineering works with tasks that correspond to his or her degree. During the Studies at Building Site module the student will get to know his or her tasks well enough to be able to work as a stand-in during vacations or the like.

Content

The positions available for students after graduation are, among others, - project manager, - supervisor, - tender calculator, - technical salesperson7 technical support, - maintenance manager, - technical property manager. The student working in one of the above mentioned or similar positions is to complete an on-the-job learning project to be reported on. The subject of the project is chosen among the daily working tasks of the student, but to describe and analyse the task the student will have to acquire wider knowledge of the task and understand the background of the task, and the connections of the task to the operations of the company. Possible subjects for the project are e.g. tender or quantity calculation for a certain construction site, preparation phase of a site, or a planning project. The working tasks performed during the on-the-job learning module are to be of the nature listed above. Internship with manual labour (such as installations) is not an acceptable alternative for this module. During the on-the-job period the employer, the student and a representative of the university of applied sciences will engage in discussions to determine the professional ambitions of the student and how they could be realized. The student will be given instructions about how to report the module.
