Measuring Technology, HVAC SystemsLaajuus (3 ECTS)
Course unit code: TY00AA32
General information
- Credits
- 3 ECTS
Objective
After having completed the course the student will have an overall understanding of how HVAC systems are measured and how the results are presented. The student will be able to perform some basic HVAC measurements and assess the accuracy of the results. Furthermore, the student will know what dangers and environmental effects the measuring activities can cause and be able to take them into account when planning the measurements.
Having completed the course the student will be able to implement various measuring techniques to determine the qualities of HVAC systems, to recognize the possible sources of error in the measurements and to use measuring standards.
Content
The fundamental measurements in HVAC engineering: temperature, flow, indoor air quality, air currents. Assessment of the reliability of measuring results. Safe working methods in laboratories. Utilisation of standards and measuring instructions in systematic measurement taking.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The student participates in all measurement taking, completes the given pre-assignments, prepares acceptable measurement reports and passes the laboratory exam. The student has an overall understanding of the basic HVAC measurements.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
In addition to the above, the student understands the limitations and margins of error of different methods. He or she is able to create thorough measurement reports.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
In addition to the above, the student shows initiative in measurement taking and creates measurement reports with a thorough examination of methods and results. The student is able to apply different measurement techniques in finding out the properties of HVAC systems. The student is aware of the margin of error in his or her measurements and is able to use measurement standards.
